Construction gets going on casino near University of Phoenix Stadium — Phoenix Business Journal
The Tohono O’odham Nation is starting to move dirt as construction moves forward on a controversial casino just north of University of Phoenix Stadium and Gila River Arena in Glendale.
Preconstruction surveying and soil testing have been completed by the tribe’s contractors, Hunt Construction Group and Penta Building Group. They will now start a $7 million grading project of the casino land at 91st and Northern avenues.
Hunt and Penta have hired major subcontractors for the $400 million casino and resort. The O’odham also have ordered steel for construction of the first phase.
The casino’s first phase is slated to be completed within 12 months and will feature more than 1,000 slot machines.
