Glendale Tribe breaks ground for West Valley casino — Daily News-Sun

The Tohono O’odham Nation broke ground this morning for the West Valley Resort casino.

Marlene Vazquez, a member of the Nation and one of its former council members, said prior to the groundbreaking that she is “excited” the project is moving forward. “We’ve waited a long time.”

About 300 people attended the event, inlcuding Glendale officials and staff and elected leaders from West Valley cities — Peoria Mayor Bob Barrett, El Mirage Mayor Lana Mook, and Tolleson Mayor Adolfo Gamez, plus council members and staff from those municipalities and Phoenix.
