Op-Ed: Mayor, council should place jobs ahead of politics — Glendale Star

Guest opinion by David Jones, President & CEO Arizona Construction Association

Mayor Weiers, I urge that you and the councilmembers reconsider your position of opposition to the West Valley Resort and Casino development project. After lengthy and costly litigation challenges in several venues of justice in state and federal courts, it appears that this project has a high percentage of becoming a reality. Further delays only prolong the opportunities for jobs and vital economic opportunities for the West Valley and your city.

I believe further resistance only serves to perpetuate divisiveness in city government and the community. Now is the time to reevaluate and access all of the positives that could come from developing a meaningful dialogue with the representatives of the Tohono O’odham Nation with the goal of achieving a “Good Neighbor” mutual relationship for the best interest of all concerned.
