Randy Howe walked past one of the dozens of bright yellow-vested workers inside the large, warehouse-like structure.
“We’re gettin’ there,” he remarked, moving around a bank of slot machines.
The hum of equipment filled the large warehouse-like structure mixed with the sounds of hammering, electronic tools and the steady beeping signaling vehicles maneuvering about.
Howe and other officials with the Tohono O’odham Gaming Enterprise’s new Diamond Desert Casino were marking a milestone in the $400 million project that began more than a year ago with the installation of the initial group of slot machines.
“We’re really excited. There have been obstacles and challenges. Everyone has worked really hard. Getting these machines here on the floor demonstrates we’re ready and working to meet our target date,” said Treena Parvello, TOGE’s director of public relations.
